Just look and some spots in the Dervish Elonian armor, that have still the blue color even dyed.
They should fix the armor textures so they are with 'dye-friendly' colors, like grey and sepia (Grey for metalic and sepia for fabric and leathers).
Once the textures are like that, the current dying system will work better.

I wanted to dye my Assassin's armor gray because I hoped it would make the flowery pattern. I'm a sad ninja. The Gray dye did nothing except make the armor look bland. I thought about mixing it with Silver to give it a matte but metallic look but that's impossible due to Gray being the new dye remover I don't want to waste my money experimenting.

A dye remover would be great to remove dye from weapons, shields, etc. I don't see the point of a dye remover on armor though. Everything defaults to gray now.
Weapons, shields, etc., on the other hand, do not default to gray. Once you dye a weapon that has a fairly unique color (Jade Swords for example), the color is lost forever, unless there's some clever trick I'm unaware of.

There are colors that are only obtainable with the use of dye remover.
Remover washes out the dye, IE: 2 Purple + 1 Blue + 1 Dye Remover makes a faded bluish lavender on leather, its very pretty.
White does not achieve the same effect, white makes it very opaque and very bright.

Keep everything the way it is, but add a Dye Thinner to merchants, since that's the valid use everyone keeps ragging on about.
Dye was changed for a few reasons, *Edit Dye could have been changed for these reasons..
Dye scams from selling mixed dyes.
Some dye mixes just weren't logical outcomes.
Dye Remover as it was never worked quite right(universally), when used for the purpose it's named after.
I'm not sure but this makes sense too: Dye now is simpler, you can't make as many colors, and that takes up less storage and bandwidth over all.
I'm sure Anet had other reasons too, as it does for all sorts of things.(Something that entirely too many users that post here don't take into account)
